About the Vale Clinic

The Vale Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic comprises a team of nine chartered physiotherapists who are all registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC). The team is managed by Liz Smith, the Practice Principal.

Liz opened the clinic in 1986, gradually increasing the number of physiotherapists in the team to provide an extensive array of skills and experience. As a result the clinic is able to treat a wide range of conditions. We offer an extensive range of specialist skills including acupuncture, occupational health, treatment of sports injuries, Pilates, neurology and rehabilitation following operations.

We believe in hands on treatment with the addition, where indicated, of electrotherapy using eg laser therapy, ultrasound, and interferential therapy. We supplement these treatments with the production of individually tailored printed programmes for each patient, which we can also send in an email to enable patients to augment their treatment at home.

Liz has recently changed her role within the practice to that of management, supporting the excellent administration team on reception.

Physiotherapy treatment starts with a detailed assessment of the patient’s condition and how it impacts on their life and then moves to the treatment of the area affected. Existing physical problems, poor working habits and postures can have a serious adverse impact on a person’s quality of life, causing parts of the body to cease to function correctly. Reduced function can also be due, for example, to injury or an age related problem such as arthritis. We aim to restore normal movement and to show our patients how to strengthen the relevant muscles in order to provide the strength and stability which will help to prevent recurrence of the problem.

The longest serving member of the physiotherapy team is Cathryn Colville, who has worked at The Vale Clinic for approximately eleven years. She is highly experienced in the treatment of sports injuries and in occupational health issues. She is also a member of ACPOHE (The Association of Physiotherapists in Occupational Health and Ergonomics) and also AACP (the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) using acupuncture to aid in the treatment and relief of pain.

Most of the present team have been working at The Vale Clinic for many years, offering good continuity to our patients. Another benefit of our large team is that we can offer cover when holidays are taken and can usually give patients their own choice of physiotherapist.

Our reception team consists of Jacqui, Cathy and Val who will answer your telephone call and your enquiries in a friendly, professional and supportive manner. They are always available if you have any queries about your appointment. When the clinic is closed there is an answer phone to take your messages. We aim to return your call as quickly as possible.
